Wish You Were Here by Renée Carlino: Blog Tour

Blurb:

You know when you’re looking at someone and you can’t help but smile at how oblivious they are to their own charm? That’s what was happening to me, and it was making me feel…happy. Euphoric. Something indescribable. It was like we already knew each other, like we had met in a previous life. Memories that didn’t exist began exploding in my mind like fireworks.

Charlotte has spent her twenties adrift, searching for a spark to jump-start her life and give her a sense of purpose. She’s had as many jobs as she’s had bad relationships, and now she’s feeling especially lost in her less-than-glamorous gig at a pie-and-fry joint in Los Angeles, where the uniforms are bad and the tips are even worse.

Then she collides—literally—with Adam, an intriguing, handsome, and mysterious painter. Their serendipitous meeting on the street turns into a whirlwind one-night stand that has Charlotte feeling enchanted by Adam’s spontaneity and joy for life. There’s promise in both his words and actions, but in the harsh light of morning, Adam’s tune changes, leaving Charlotte to wonder if her notorious bad luck with men is really just her own bad judgment.

Months later, a new relationship with Seth, a charming baseball player, is turning into something more meaningful, but Charlotte’s still having trouble moving past her one enthralling night with Adam. Why? When she searches for answers, she finds the situation with Adam is far more complicated than she ever imagined. Faced with the decision to write a new story with Seth or finish the one started with Adam, Charlotte embarks on a life-altering journey, one that takes her across the world and back again, bringing a lifetime’s worth of pain, joy, and wisdom.

Review by Michelle:

In the market for your average sweet romance, insta-love connection, or steamy quick read? Keep looking. Wish You Were Here is anything but your average story. Remarkable characters, a memorable and unique storyline, and an instant and unshakable love unlike any other. It should come as no surprise by now that Renee Carlino produces a distinctly epic love story, yet I'm pleasantly surprised with each and every new story produced by this author.

From the moment Adam and Charlotte meet you can just tell that something is different. Not just in the sense that this is not your run-of-the-mill heroine, but instead one that is a bit flighty and quirky and ready for something big to happen in her life, and it's not your average Joe that she meets, but instead one that is fun and artistic and mysterious. It's not just the immediate and electrifying connection. Not just the speed at which things move. But maybe Adam's erratic behavior? Maybe Charlotte's out of character decisions? It has to be Adam's mantra. Something is unquestionably unique and thrilling and mystifying, something that had my interest instantly piqued and from that point on I was completely and most definitely hooked.

If nothing else Adam is 100% admirably free spirited, unrestrained, and carefree. To be so uninhibited, so spontaneous, and so full of life is extremely enviable for those of us that may, more often than not, miss out of some pretty amazing opportunities by being overly cautious. Unfortunately, it takes a life altering event for most of us to embrace such a philosophy at which time it may just be too late. If you take just one thing from this story, I would hope it would be this outlook, this attitude, and this positivity in the face of both the good and the bad.

Talk about insta-love. After just one night together, there is a bond so extraordinary and so intense that no matter the time or distance, the mind insists on returning to that short time together. While I've never been a big fan of a profession of love after an incredibly short amount of time, I have never seen a connection such as this done so well. The characters don't claim to love one another after that first night, which was a huge relief for me, they didn't necessarily equate what they were feeling to true, all-consuming love, even in their own minds, and it was less about the word love or the label of being in love, but more about the overwhelming feelings of being incomplete without that person, of finding someone that could be your perfect match, of relating to someone as you never have before. I was not just okay with all this this time around, I enjoyed it, I was totally on board with it, and yes, even loved the romanticism of it all. Renee Carlino proves that insta-love can not only be tackled successfully, but it can also be powerful and believable and even relatable.

At one point I thought I had it all figured out and believed I knew just how this story would end. I soon came to find that, though the majority of what was expected did in fact take place, it was in a much more beautiful and breathtaking way than I ever anticipated. From the very start I never wanted there to be even an inkling of settling or leftovers and when I believed that this was indeed going to happen, I became very frustrated with what had previously been a fun, exceptional, and life affirming story. Believe me, even if you think you know, see this one out. I'm honestly not sure how I could have doubted Renee Carlino in the first place, but it was so much more complicated, compelling and poetic than ever anticipated. Each person we meet and choose to allow into our lives changes us in some way. Some more than others, and there is a reason for them all. I love that everyone in Charlotte's life had a reason and that while they may have come into Charlotte's life at inopportune times, their purpose was not lost on her and things worked out as they were meant to in the end.

A striking and important story that will remind you to appreciate what you have while you have it and to live each day to the fullest. Wish You Were Here is highly emotional, wonderfully surprising, and powerfully poignant. Your average Renee Carlino masterpiece making it anything but your average romance.

About the Author:

Renee’s first friends were the imaginary kind and even though her characters haven’t gone away, thankfully the delusions have. She admits she’s a wildly hopeless romantic and she blames 80’s movies staring Molly Ringwald for that. She lives in Southern California with her husband, two sons, and their sweet dog June. When she’s not at the beach with her boys or working on the next book, she likes to spend her time reading, going to concerts, and eating dark chocolate.

Excerpt:

“You’re making love sound tragic,” I said.

“No”—he shook his head—“I wouldn’t want it any other way. Tell me about us. What do we like to do?”

“Paint and sail and eat and drink. Just simple things.” “Don’t forget about sex,” he said.
“Yeah, lots of sex. Before the children were born we

"We were practically naked every second of the day.”

“I like that.”

“When they got older, we’d sneak away for weekends and leave them at my mom’s.”

“What are they like? Our children.”

“Happy. That’s all we wished for. We put our love first and it just spilled over into them and now they’re happy.”

Tears sprang from my eyes and ran down my cheeks. Isn’t that what we all hope for when it comes to our children?

His tone suddenly changed. “That’s beautiful, Char- lotte.” It was like he was waking up from the dream. I didn’t want to go back to reality yet, but I knew these fantasies were just to help Adam get his mind off things.

“I can imagine a long life with you,” he said. “I can imagine what a great wife you’d be."

I pulled my hand out of his. “The story is about you and me.” He didn’t say anything; he just nodded and then continued to stare out the window. I bent and kissed the top of his head again, and whispered, “It’s about us. Don’t take that away from me.”

Cuffed (Everyday Heroes #1) by K. Bromberg: Cover Reveal

Blurb:

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past.

But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.

What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?

***

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.

That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.

Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.
